Nanded is one of the most fertile districts of the
Marathwada region. The main occupation of the people being agriculture, it
assumes prime importance in the economy of the district.
Among
the factors that determine the crop pattern and the Agricultural seasons in the
district, rainfall plays an important role. Average annual Rainfall in the
district is 955 mm & 88% of total rainfall is received during June to
September. Soils along the banks of rivers are deep & clayey. The main
river in the district is Godavari. The tributaries of this river, N2 Painganga,
Manar & Manjra have also deep and clayey soils along their banks. Except
for the depth, the soils of the District do not show much variation in physical
and chemical properties. Soils have light Grey-brown to Grey brown color on the
surface & a clayey texture.
